Confetti

Ok I think I may be a little biased but British romantic comedies just seem to hit a little button somewhere inside me. Sure it may make me a giant vagina but I just seem to love these things. First 'Love, Actually' and now this "entirely improvised" 'Confetti.'

I say "entirely improvised" because I can't find any confirmation anywhere, but according to everything I've seen there is a large majority of the dialogue that was straight off the cuff, and, well, it works. You can script and script and script and attempt to make realistic-sounding dialogue, but there is nothing like the effect of when people are coming up with ideas on the spur of the moment, interrupting each other and going off on wild tangents. I think it's what makes 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' so great, although my girlfriend would probably vehemently disagree.

So, what else works?

Well, it's a mockumentary. Like 'Hairspray' (I think) and 'Best in Show' it lampoons a lifestyle and makes it hilarious. Who would've thought watching people plan and executre 'original' weddings could be so much fun? The plot centres around a wedding magazine trying to find the most original wedding, and follows three couples as they plan their perfect weddings: nudist, musical and tennis. There isn't much more to it than that. It also has perhaps the best cast in the world. Jessica Stevenson (Spaced), Martin Freeman (The Office), Olivia Colman (Peep Show / Big Train), Mark Heap (Spaced, Big Train), Meredith MacNeill (Big Train), Stephen Mangan (Green Wing), Robert Webb (Peep Show). Sure, I'm not a huge fan of Green Wing (I HATE IT), but with everyone else it's just basically a shopping list of my favourite sitcoms and comedy shows. Throw in Simon Pegg and Nick Frost and I think I might've died.

Or just been happy. You know. Whichever.

Oh yeah, Jimmy Carr is in it too. He plays Jimmy Carr playing Jimmy Carr playing some guy that is rich. I guess what I'm trying to say is that he should stick to being sarcastic on quiz shows. Conversely, the two wedding planners make for perhaps the greatest moments in the film. Dancing as ball-boys, crying because of shouting and generally gaying the place up.

Anyway, there isn't much more to say. The weddings culminate in a glorious spectacle that is fun to watch and got my girlfriend nudging me in the ribs whispering "I want the musical wedding.."

And it's funny.

And you can see boobies and weiners if that's your thing.

Otherwise, it has some great conversations, some great confrontations and some naked, naked boobs.

What more could you want?
